Distinguished television writer Marc Wilmore has passed away due to complications from COVID-19. The popular writer was 57 years old at the time of his passing.
“My sweet sweet brother, Marc Edward Wilmore, passed away last night while battling COVID and other conditions that have had him in pain for many years. My brother was the kindest, gentlest, funniest, lion of an angel I’ve ever known. I love you little brother," his brother, Larry Wilmore, tweeted.
Wilmore is well known for his work as a writer for the sketch comedy show, In Living Color, during the 1990s. During the show's final season, he made the transition from behind the scenes to on-camera star. His work earned a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. After contributing to In Living Color for three years, he began working on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The PJs. In 2002, his work landed him a role on The Simpsons that ran from 2002 until 2015. Wilmore earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in 2008 for "Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind." Up until his passing, Wilmore worked as an executive producer for the Netflix show, F is For Family.
"Marc Wilmore was a character, a gentle man, and a clown. I loved him. Most of the time he made me laugh. Sometimes he told me stories with such truth and vulnerability it made me cry. He was the sweetest and the funniest person in the room always & I wish I could give him a hug," F is for Family writer Jessica L. Williamson tweeted.
Wilmore's F is for Family will return for a fifth and final season later this year.
