All-Star Weekend Goers Start GoFundMe Pages To Get Back Home

Following the NBA All-Star weekend in Atlanta, Georgia, several GoFundPages have popped up for people who gotten stranded in the city.

“Stuck in Atlanta with no way home,” one of the pages says. On the pages, people explain the miscellaneous reasons how they got to the city, but weren’t able to get home. Some fundraisers asked for more than $1,000 to get out of Atlanta.

“I really don’t know how to get around here,” one of the fundraiser pages.

The NBA All-Star Game drew thousands of fans to the Peach State capitol, despite concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. Parties and events began earlier in the week and lasted through Sunday (March 7), though apparently not everyone was able to leave after the festivities.

Rapper Lil Yachty weighed in on the fundraising efforts on his TikTok account. “Why did you go?” he asks in the video after reading one of the captions on the fundraising pages. “You should’ve stayed home!” he yells at the end of the video. The video has almost one million likes so far and has been shared over 43,000 times.

Some have called out the fundraising efforts for being scams. At least one of the pages is no longer active and it’s not clear if GoFundMe took the pages down. Regardless, hopefully, everyone made it home safely.
