Piers Morgan Storms Off After Being Confronted For Meghan Markle Comments

British TV host Piers Morgan stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (March 9) after his co-host Alex Beresford confronted him on the comments he’s made about Meghan Markle

“OK. I’m done with this. Sorry. No. Sorry. You can trash me mate, but not on my own show,” Morgan said as he stomped off the show’s set.

On the show Monday (March 8), Morgan said he didn’t believe Meghan struggled with mental health while a member of the royal family, dismissing the claims she made during the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and husband Prince Harry

Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu appeared on the show that same day and went viral for calling Piers out for trying to defend the Palace against Meghan and Harry’s allegations of racist and negative treatment they endured

“What about the behavior of Harry and Meghan, who are spray-gunning his family on global television as [Prince Philip] lies in the hospital?” Morgan, who called the interview with Oprah an “absolutely disgraceful betrayal’ said. “You might laugh, I don’t think it’s funny.”

“What I don’t think is funny is the fact that you are such a disappointment,” Dr. Mos-Shogbamimu replied. “I wish to God one day you even surprise me. You constantly use your platform as a wealthy, white, privileged man with power and influence to aggravate and escalate the bigoted sexist, racist, and misogynist attacks on Meghan Markle. And you do it shamelessly,” she added. Social media applauded Dr. Mos-Shogbamimu’s response which included running down of the racist history of the British government, its connection to and perpetuation of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, and more.

Co-host Alex Beresford echoed some of Dr. Mos-Shogbamimu’s sentiments on Tuesday’s show (March 9), pointing out Morgan’s relentless comments on Meghan.

“I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle. You’ve made that so clear a number of times on this program. A number of times,” Beresford said. “And I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”

That was apparently Morgan’s breaking point. He got up and walked off the set. Beresford called his storm off “pathetic.”

“This is absolutely diabolical behavior,” Beresford continued after Morgan left. “I’m sorry, but Piers spouts off on a regular basis and we all have to sit here and listen –– 6:30 a.m. to 7 o’clock yesterday was incredibly hard to watch, incredibly hard to watch,” he said.

Some pointed out Morgan's hypocrisy of talking about Markle relentlessly but not be able to listen to critique of his own behavior.

Morgan later returned to the show where he insisted he be talked to in a “civilized manner.”

Beresford explained that he wasn’t accusing Morgan of being racist, but that what Meghan revealed in the interview resonated with him, given his own struggles with “covert and overt racism.” He also shared that a former colleague expressed concern about “the shade of cocoa that my son was going to come out.” He added, “So I fully understand the hurt that is behind all of that.”
