LeVar Burton Campaigns To Become The Next 'Jeopardy!' Host

In the wake of Alex Trebek's tragic passing, Jeopardy! is in search of finding someone to fill the longtime host's legendary shoes. For the time being, the show is inviting a series of guest hosts. This week, the show is being led by Super Bowl-winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but fans may have an idea or two about who should lead the show next.

LeVar Burton is campaigning to become the next Jeopardy! host. On April 5, Burton tweeted out a link to a petition put together by a fan that advocates for him to become the next host of the iconic game show. He captioned the petition, "Leaving this here in the event the powers that be are listening."

"Between hosting 21 seasons of the educational Reading Rainbow, playing the brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: the Next Generation, and filling the roll of Kunta Kinte in the ever important mini-series Roots, LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds," the petition reads.

"This petition is to show Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and producers Mike Richards and Harry Friedman just how much love the public has for Burton, and how much we'd all love to see him as the next host of Jeopardy!"

The petition is already gaining steam. In just a few months, it has already gathered 180,000 signatures. With a goal of 200,000 signatures, it just may hit its lofty goal. Either way, Burton is thankful that his fans believe in him enough to sign the petition.

"Even if nothing comes from it, I can't tell how much how I appreciate all y'alls love and support," he tweeted.
