Former reality television show host Donald Trump has hinted that former Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker will run for a seat in the United States Senate next year. Trump shared the news during an interview with conservative pundits, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton.

“He told me he’s going to, and I think he will. I had dinner with him a week ago. He’s a great guy. He’s a patriot. And he’s a very loyal person, he’s a very strong person. They love him in Georgia, I’ll tell you,” Trump said.

Walker and Trump have a longstanding relationship that dates back more than three decades. After winning the Heisman Trophy at the University of Georgia, Walker played two years for a United States Football League team owned by Trump. In his post-playing days, Walker has been an ardent support of Trump's efforts as a politician. His son, Christian Walker, has always emerged as an aggressive supporter of the hotel chain owner.

If Walker were to run, he would compete against Raphael Warnock. Warnock defeated former Sen. Kelly Loeffler in January after she was handpicked to finish the term of former Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson. Despite Georgia turning blue at the Senate and presidential level, Trump feels that Walker will come out on top next November.

“I think he’d win. I think it would be very, very hard to beat Herschel,” Trump continued.

“They have the ballads, they made ballads to Herschel. They still sing them all the time. So I think beating him would be very tough. And I think he’s going to run.”

Meanwhile, Walker has not officially indicated whether or not he will run in 2022.
