Twitter users are getting hyped for the new Sonic The Hedgehog movie after actor Idris Elba dropped a teaser on his account Tuesday (August 9).

"Knock, knock..." the Luther star wrote along with a picture of the iconic spiked glove of Knuckles the Echidna, a longtime and popular character from the hit Sega series. It hasn't been confirmed if Elba is voicing the short-tempered red echidna, but he's giving plenty of people a reason to speculate.

The British actor has been busy with other blockbuster hits over the years, from Marvel movies to recently released The Suicide Squad. He also has several voice acting credits, including Finding Dory and Zootopia.

The live-action Sonic movie surprised critics, fans, and casual moviegoers with its impressive visuals, fun story beats, and amazing action. The internet initially trashed the movie before its release because the first trailer featured a version of the blue blur that looked more humanoid. Reactions varied from hilarity and shock to anger and terror.

After hearing feedback about Sonic's model, the animators went back to the drawing board and presented a model more in line with the hedgehog's cartoony origins. The movie was released to box office success in February 2020 -- right before the COVID-19 pandemic took off and shut down theaters.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is scheduled to be released on April 8, 2022. The first movie is available on HBO Max and Amazon Prime.
