Rapper Meek Mill posted to Instagram Thursday night (August 12), giving fans a close up view of his Nelson Mandela Foundation Change Maker Humanitarian Award

“Blessings … I got ‘the Nelson Mandela humanitarian award’” he wrote in the caption. “Thank you Rip to the great Nelson Mandela,” he added. The photo included the “Stay Woke” rapper’s signature Dream Chasers chain on top of a Tiffany & Co. box.

Meek is the first rapper to be awarded the honor and received the award for his years-long criminal justice reform efforts.

Following a very personal and public legal battle and imprisonment, Meek used his own story to highlight the injustice of America’s criminal system, particularly parole and probation. In 2019, he teamed up with Jay-Z ,Michael Rubin, and more to launch the REFORM Alliance.

In two later Instagram posts, the rapper teased a new freestyle, “Mandela Freestyle,” set to be released Friday afternoon (August 13).

Friends of the rapper including Slim Thug, Tierra Whack, and more congratulated him on the honor in the comments.
