Michael K. Williams, the actor known for his stunning role as Omar Little on the HBO drama series The Wire, was found dead Monday (September 6) inside his NYC apartment. He was 54 years old.

News of his death circulated quickly, sparking an outpouring of tributes to the Emmy-nominated actor from co-stars, friends, and those who worked with him.

"The depth of my love for this brother, can only be matched by the depth of my pain learning of his loss," acting legend Wendell Pierce, who is also Williams' co-star on The Wire, wrote in a tweet.

"An immensely talented man with the ability to give voice to the human condition portraying the lives of those who humanity is seldom elevated until he sings their truth," Pierce added. "If you don't know, you better ask somebody."

Actor Damson Idris also tweeted his condolences, calling Williams a teacher.

"Rest in Peace Michael K. Williams. Gone far too soon. A man that taught me so much. Thank you for your wisdom," Idris wrote.

Other messages of love and gratitude have made their way online, with one common theme –– the kindness Williams showed to those around him.

In June, Williams took the stage at the BET Awards to lead a tribute to the late rap legend DMX.
