R&B singer Jaheim was arrested and charged after police found “more than a dozen dogs” living in deplorable conditions” at his New Jersey home.

According to reports, the “Put That Woman First” singer was arrested Monday (September 6) after police in Hillsborough Township responded to a call about a “puppy in distress.”

Upon arrival, authorities found 15 dogs living in cages filled with water and dog feces. One of the dogs, the Daily Beast reported, had to be put down after officials found the animal “unresponsive” in one of the water-filled crates. A total of 14 dogs were turned over to a local kennel to receive proper care and treatment, officials said.

The disturbing police report also details that several of the dogs were in “varying stages of emaciation without access to food and water” at the singer’s home.

The singer’s first court date is pending, reports noted, with the 43-year-old facing third-degree animal cruelty charges and failure to provide necessary care to an animal.

Jaheim released his debut album Ghetto Love in 2001 and was nominated for three Grammy awards in the course of his career.
