Wanda Sykes took her Oscars hosting gig to another level on Sunday night (March 27), dressing up as Richard Williams, the famed father and coach of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams.
According to Sykes, the segment didn't seem to go according to her plan, though, because her co-hosts Regina Hall and Amy Schumer come out on stage as completely different characters from completely different movies.
"No wonder Richard Williams was so strict," Sykes joked while rolling out a shopping cart full of tennis balls onto the Academy Awards stage. The comedian and actress sported tiny white shorts, red sweater, and even the facial hair Will Smith donned to portray Williams in the award-winning and Oscar-nominated film.
Wanda called co-host Regina Hall out on stage, stating the D.C. native was supposed to dress as Venus. Instead, Regina stepped out dressed as singer-evangelist Tammy Faye. Jessica Chastain portrayed Faye in the 2021 film The Eyes of Tammy Faye. As far as the third co-host of the evening, Amy Schumer dropped from the ceiling dressed as Marvel's very own Spider Man –– complete with silly string props, too.
