A Black Houstonian was robbed at gunpoint just outside of her home, and fellow Houston native Trae Tha Truth is using his platform to shed light on the incident.

The Houston Police Department has shared footage of Tonya being ambushed by an unknown armed suspect driving a black four-door sedan. As Tonya approached her front door, the robber demanded she empty her pockets.

The 53-year-old tried to fight back, but the gunman successfully stole her purse filled with $3,900 cash from her tax refund.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Trae saw the video of Tonya’s robbery and was moved to visit his fellow Houstonian.

The Houston rapper took to Instagram to show his support for Tonya after their meet-up. Trae said in his post, “I made sure she know that real ones don’t stand by or approve what happen to her.”

Tonya told KHOU she was planning to use the money from her tax refund to take care of her son who currently has to use a wheelchair. Trae encouraged the mom to start a GoFundMe page to get her stolen funds back, according to his Instagram.

Houston Police are still looking for the suspect in the aggravated assault as of Wednesday (April 6). Officers have described the robber to be 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall wearing a maroon hoodie, blue jeans, and white shoes.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or submit an online tip.
