Zendaya has made Emmys history once again!
On Tuesday (July 12), the 74th Annual Emmy Awards nominees were announced and for the second year, Zendaya made history thanks to her work on Euphoria.
The 25-year-old actress, who plays Rue on the hit HBO drama series, also serves as an executive producer for the show, which was nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series, making her the youngest woman to receive a producing nomination at the Emmys. Zendaya also landed a nom for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series, making her the youngest two-time lead acting nominee ever.
In total, Z snagged four nominations, two of which are for her songs in the Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics category: “Elliot’s Song” from the episode “All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name” (music and lyrics by Labrinth, and lyrics by Muzhda Zemar-McKenzie and Zendaya) and “I’m Tired” from the episode “You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can” (music and lyrics by Labrinth, and lyrics by Zendaya and Sam Levinson).
Zendaya's latest Emmy noms also make her the first Black woman, and second Black person, to be nominated for acting and songwriting in the same year at the Emmys. (Talk about #BlackGirlMagic!)
Zendaya first made Emmy history in 2020 when she became the youngest lead actress drama winner, and only the second-ever Black woman to win the category, following Viola Davis for “How to Get Away With Murder.”
This year’s Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on NBC on September 12. It will also stream live on Peacock for the first time.
