It was a quick election night win for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who NBC News has projected to win reelection.

Just past 8 pm ET on Tuesday (November 8), multiple outlets announced DeSantis' projected victory over former Rep. Charlie Crist. Sen. Marco Rubio also "cruised to victory," as reported by NBC News, "securing his third term amid a statewide Democratic collapse." He defeated Democratic Rep. Val Demings.

The quick victories mark a new era for Republicans in the state, given that four years ago, DeSantis won by less than half a percentage point.

“A big win in Florida is a huge proof point for DeSantis, a strong point for showcasing governing strength and electoral strength,” David Kochel, a veteran Republican campaign adviser, told NBC News. “The fact DeSantis won by a hair in 2018 and now he’s blowing away Democrats sends a message.”

DeSantis' win is yet another sign that Florida, which has long been considered a swing state, is now firmly under Republican control. Additionally, Florida is on pace to have no statewide elected Democrat.

All eyes are now on DeSantis' political future as he is expected to soon make a decision on whether he will turn his state success into a national campaign for the White House. The decision to run for the 2024 Republican Presidential nomination could mean he goes head-to-head against former President Donald Trump, who is expected to announce his candidacy for President in the coming weeks.
