Many of the bomb threats that targeted the country's HBCUs earlier this year have been linked to a single juvenile, according to the FBI.

On Monday (November 14), a senior FBI official said the juvenile, who was not identified, was prosecuted as a minor by state authorities, ending the long-standing probe into the more than 50 racially-motivated threats that rocked Black colleges across the nation, per USA Today.

Federal investigators initially identified "several minors" possibly connected to the threats, prompting a widespread inquiry that involved at least 30 of the FBI's 56 field offices. They later linked the communications to a single person.

Due to the suspect's juvenile status, authorities didn't disclose any descriptive information on the person or where they were ultimately prosecuted. According to USA Today, officials did, however, suggest that the juvenile was charged in connection with an unrelated related threat.

The senior official said that undisclosed restrictions have been placed on the juvenile, which has limited their conduct in some capacity since the prosecution.

Walter Kimbrough, a member of the HBCU advisory council formed by President Joe Biden and former president of Dillard University, called the identification of the juvenile suspect "great news."

"Finding out who was doing this sends a message that there will be accountability," Kimbrough said.
