The former University of Kentucky student who was caught on camera attacking a Black student and hurling racial slurs was indicted by a grand jury this week, according to Louisville Courier-Journal.

A Fayette County grand jury indicted 22-year-old Sophie Rosing on six charges, including assault and felony assault of a police officer, for her drunken attack on Kylah Spring, a first-year student and resident assistant from Memphis, and other peers.

Viral footage from November 2022 shows Rosing, who's white, trying to bite, punch and kick Spring while spewing insults and racist remarks, including the N-word. The incident happened at an on-campus residence hall, and a separate video caught Rosing trying to push a shopping cart at Spring.

“The girl starts saying things like ‘Do my chores,’ ‘It’s not my fault that you’re black,’ ‘It’s not my fault that you’re ugly,’ and at this point, she’s like singing the N-word,” Spring said at the time, per reporters.

When a police officer showed up and placed Rosing in handcuffs, she kicked and bit the cop, according to court records. She faced several charges, including assault, assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication. The student plead not guilty to the charges during a November arraignment and bonded out of jail the same day.

Rosing was permanently banned from the University of Kentucky, according to a letter from President Eli Capilouto. Before the school's decision, Rosing's lawyer said she would withdraw from her classes. The racist incident sparked outrage on campus, leading to a "March Against Racism" rally.

The 22-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on March 17 for arraignment.
