NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson is reportedly one step closer to becoming an NFL team owner.

According to the Associated Press, Johnson is a part of the ownership group that reached an agreement in principle on Thursday (April 13) to purchase the Washington Commanders.

The deal hasn't been finalized but Dan Snyder is reportedly selling the Commanders for $6.05 billion.

News of the deal comes after Johnson joined the ownership group, which is largely backed by billionaire Josh Harris, last month. The former NBA star is no stranger to team ownership as he holds minority stakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles FC, and Los Angeles Sparks.

Johnson got his start in sports ownership in 1994 with a stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, which he has since sold. In 2012, Johnson was at the forefront of the Guggenheim Partners group when it purchased the Dodgers.

The Guggenheim group went on to buy the Sparks in 2014. That same year, Johnson also joined the ownership group behind the Los Angeles FC.
