Social media users are flooding the internet with their thoughts after Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

On Tuesday (August 8), Lanez was handed down a 10-year prison sentence following a two-day sentencing hearing that featured testimony from Lanez's doctor, a police officer, and other community figures who "vouched" for the 31-year-old rapper. In December, Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence in connection with Meg's shooting.

Meg previously testified that Lanez told her to "dance, b*tch," and shot at her feet following a July 12, 2020, get-together at Kylie Jenner's home. The rapper said at the time she had no doubt that Lanez fired the shots "over nothing more than a bruised ego."

"When Megan insulted his ability as an artist -- that's what set him off that night," a prosecutor previously said of Lanez.

Lanez's sentencing was delayed several times. His legal team previously filed a motion for a new trial, but it was denied in May. In June, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón recommended Lanez be sentenced to 13 years in state prison, citing his "lack of remorse."

"The defendant has failed to exhibit any remorse, which begs the question whether any of the apologies he directed to the victim in his text message and jail call were genuine and not just driven by an effort to maintain her silence," prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum. "Except for the jail call admission and his apology text to the victim back in July 2020, the defendant has spent nearly three years since that time waging a campaign of misinformation to re-traumatize the victim."

Lanez's lawyers argued the rapper should only get probation and be released from prison to enter a residential substance abuse program.
