A transgender woman was assaulted before she was struck by a car and killed in Washington, D.C.

According to People, 30-year-old Anee Roberson was assaulted near Nellie's Sports Bar, a popular gay bar in D.C., on October 14. She was later struck by a car and died at a hospital.

A medical examiner ruled her death a homicide.

The driver of the car that struck Roberson was cooperative with officers and wasn't connected to her assault, police said. The Metropolitan Police Department said they are still searching for the person who assaulted Roberson, and officials are offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

It's unclear if Roberson's death is being investigated as a hate crime.

Oluwaferanni Olarinde, Roberson’s friend, told Fox 5 DC that she was known for being passionate and consistent.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Detective Sean Rutter at (202) 657-3102, Detective Sidney Catlett at (202) 302-9651, or the Command Information Center (CIC) at (202) 727-9099.
