A Georgia restaurant is going viral for charging extra for poor parenting, KIRO reports.

Lyndsey Landmann said she was visiting Toccoa Riverside Restaurant with her husband and four other families when they encountered the surcharge. The group had a total of 11 children ranging from ages three to eight years old.

Landmann said she thought restaurant owner Tim Richter was joking when he told her that he was going to charge an extra $50 per bill at the table because the children were being "too loud" and "running around outside."

The woman noted that some of the adults took the kids to the river after dessert. However, Landmann said the surcharge was especially shocking because the kids were well-behaved during the meal.

“The kids were sitting at one end of the table and they were being so good,” Landmann told Today. “I even commented halfway through the meal, ‘I can’t believe how well-behaved they are.’”

Richter said the surcharge went into effect during the COVID-19 pandemic. A warning at the bottom of Toccoa's menu reads: "Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent $$$."

The warning can also be found on the restaurant's website, but no exact amount is listed for the surcharge.

Richter said he'd never threaten to apply the extra fee until Landman'ns group came in with children who were “running all over the restaurant." Although he threatened the surcharge, Richter said he never actually put the $50 on their bills.
