An 86-year-old woman was killed at the FedEx World Hub last month, marking the hub's fifth death since 2017, per Action News 5.

The Memphis Police Department said officers responded to a report about an accidental death at the hub on November 30. An employee, identified as Verna Mae Jackson, was injured while working and taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to reports, Jackson was a package handler at the "old hub," where FedEx handles freight bound for large airports, including New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport. Jackson reportedly died after a tug driver failed to signal that he was taking off with a load of mail as the employee grabbed a loose envelope that was sticking out of the container.

Jackson's body was found under a 2,500-pound dolly.

Her family has retained attorney Jeff Rosenblum, who said they're waiting on the official TOSHA report to proceed with legal action.

FedEx said in a statement: We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who are mourning their loved one. Safety is our highest priority, and we are investigating the circumstances of this accident.
