A South Florida man was arrested after authorities said he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and allegedly dragged her "through the streets" earlier this month, WPLG reports. Miami police said the incident happened on January 8 near the intersection of North Miami Avenue and Northeast 75th Street in the city’s Little River neighborhood.

Officials allege 37-year-old Jean Washington, of Brownsville, confronted his girlfriend after she filed a police report against him for domestic violence. Washington demanded the victim drop the charges, allegedly stating, "You better call them and drop them, you know I’m on papers!"

The suspect started punching the pregnant victim several times in the face, dragged her, and then fled the scene, according to officers.

Washington was arrested on January 18 for a sex offender registration violation and charges unrelated to the alleged attack, the news station wrote. Police formally arrested him for the incident on Monday (January 22) while he was still in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, per state records.

He's currently facing charges of witness tampering, aggravated battery of a pregnant victim, and battery with two or more prior convictions.

The victim was three months pregnant with the suspect's child at the time of the alleged incident, reporters learned. No word on her condition as of Wednesday (January 24).
