A 21-year-old factory worker in Georgia died last week after getting stuck under a conveyor belt, per NBC News.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Alyssa Drinkard, a contract worker at the Club Car plant in Evans, was working on March 8 around 10 p.m. when she dropped her AirPod under a machine.

Drinkard attempted to reach for the wireless earbuds when her body got caught by the chain. As Drinkard was pinned in the conveyor belt, her co-workers tried to get her out but were unable to.

A maintenance crew called the police, stopped the machine, and tried to dismantle it. First responders arrived at the scene and cut the metal frame to release Drinkard, who was found unresponsive.

Drinkard was taken to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day.

Club Car, a manufacturer of golf carts and small vehicles, released a statement following the tragic incident.

“Our sincere condolences and thoughts are with the family, friends, and all impacted by this loss,” the company said. “We are working with authorities and the contractor in an investigation to determine the facts about what led to the incident.”

One of Drinkard's co-workers, who witnessed the incident, said she was “the sweetest friend."
