The mother accused of stuffing the body of her 5-year-old son in a suitcase has been arrested in California after a two-year manhunt, according to NBC Los Angeles. Dejaune Anderson was taken into custody in the murder of Cairo Ammar Jordan, the boy whose remains were discovered inside luggage in the woods of Southern Indiana.

Indiana State Police said Anderson was arrested in Arcadia, a Los Angeles suburb, on March 14 after getting a tip from a concerned citizen. Officials then alerted the U.S. Marshalls and local authorities to apprehend Anderson as she tried boarding a metro trail train. She was charged with murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice.

On April 16, 2022, a mushroom hunter stumbled across a suitcase in the woods of rural Washington County, Indiana. When he opened the mysterious luggage, he found a pillow and a black trash bag containing Cairo's body inside, police said. The boy was never reported missing. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Anderson in October 2022.

A probable cause affidavit obtained by reporters detailed Anderson's talks about exorcism, demonic possession, and "death attacks" by her young son. Investigators allege the mother was making disturbing social media posts about Cairo before his death, including mentions of blood magic and the occult.

"Stop getting caught up in the vessels of this realm," Anderson allegedly wrote on Facebook in March 2022, according to reporters. "You guys get caught up with how old the body is, if they adult and kids, etc. Don't even know it's a full grown demon in the child body telling you what to do because you didn't choose your soul. Better start using your 311 eye."

Dawn Coleman, a woman identified by Anderson as her sister, was arrested in connection to Cairo's murder in October 2022. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges, including aiding, inducing, or causing murder.

Anderson will be extradited to Indiana on April 5 to face charges.
