An Amazon delivery driver is going viral after defending himself against a cyclist who he said racially harassed and spat on him.
The driver, identified as David McDonald, shared video of the encounter on TikTok, which appeared to unfold in a residential neighborhood.
“So I’m minding my business, making deliveries at an intersection,” McDonald said. “The man you see all [bloody] in the video was riding his bike traveling eastbound. I was trying to cross that street traveling northbound.”
McDonald said he slowly pulled forward on an obstructed road to check for oncoming traffic, which upset the cyclist. According to McDonald, the man became aggressive, called him an “idiot,” and used the N-word.
The driver said he continued his delivery route, but the cyclist followed him to his next stop.
“While I’m making the delivery, he comes up yelling and threatening me,” McDonald claimed.
After asking the man to move away from his truck, the cyclist allegedly grabbed McDonald and spat on him.
“He spit on me, and I beat his a–,” McDonald said in the video.
In the video, an older couple confronted McDonald for fighting back against the cyclist. McDonald defended his actions, saying hitting the cyclist was justified after being spat on.
“Ride the f-ck up out here. Don’t spit on me again. Watch what you do. You don’t know who I am or what I got going on … that’s the upmost disrespect,” McDonald said to the injured cyclist.
The driver called out the couple for defending the cyclist’s racist behavior.
“Whatever, I bet God wouldn’t have tolerated it,” McDonald said as he walked away from the situation. “He needs to have more self-respect and more self-control… keep condoning that racist a– bullsh-t.”
McDonald noted that his neighbors offered doorbell camera footage to support his account of the incident.
The driver has launched a GoFundMe to raise money to help cover his lost wages while he’s recovering from the incident.
