A Minneapolis man who says he voted for Donald Trump three times is publicly breaking his support for the president following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by a federal immigration agent.
Cassius Pryce, a Trump supporter who spoke to MS Now, said he is deeply disappointed by the administration’s handling of the deadly encounter and accused the president of shaping the narrative to defend ICE rather than acknowledge what actually happened.
“My message to Trump is, you know, let’s go about it the right way,” Pryce said. “I know that we’re trying to hit immigration and do the laws with that, but let’s follow the laws. Follow the Constitution. There’s no rewriting that. This is America. This is our community.”
Wearing a Black Lives Matter sweatshirt, Pryce also denounced the actions of ICE agents, calling them "tyrants" amid their deployment in Minneapolis.
“They’re being tyrants right now,” he said. “They’re doing things that they’re not supposed to that is inhumane. And they’re hurting people. They’re killing people. And it needs to stop.”
Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was shot and killed during an ICE operation earlier this week. Her death has sparked mass protests in Minneapolis and demonstrations in cities including New York and Washington, D.C. Federal officials, including Vice President JD Vance, have claimed Good attempted to “ram” an ICE agent with her vehicle, prompting the agent to fire in self-defense.
Minnesota officials and community members have strongly disputed that account. Pryce said video evidence contradicts the administration’s version of events.
“This is not what happened,” he said. “Obviously, if you’ve seen the video, the lady, she did not try to hit Jonathan Ross. She was obviously afraid.”
The shooting remains under investigation by the FBI, but Trump and other administration officials have continued to publicly defend the ICE agent involved.
Lulete Mola, president and co-founder of the Black Collective Foundation of Minnesota, said the incident has left the community feeling used for political gain.
“Minnesota residents have been pawns for political power,” Mola said. “False narratives cost lives, and I think we need to take that very seriously.”
