ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith called out Megan Thee Stallion in the wake of her recent breakup with NBA star Klay Thompson

Thee Stallion accused Thompson of cheating in an Instagram Story posted Saturday (April 25), and announced their breakup after one year of dating.

“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet,'” she wrote. Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season. Now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous’???? B***h I need a REAL break after this one.. bye y’all.”

She later shared an official statement, via Page Six, saying she was taking time to prioritize herself so she could “move ahead with peace and clarity.”

“Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward,” the statement read.

In a video posted to YouTube on Monday (April 27), Smith called out Thee Stallion for airing her and Thompson’s issues publicly instead of keeping them private.

“I'm having this episode on YouTube because I'm asking why is she telling his business?” he said. “See, that's where I want the ladies to listen. I'm sick and tired of what's going on in this world. I'm not saying whatever she felt was wrong. I don't know what happened in their relationship. Don't want to know. Ain't none of my damn business. Ain't none of y'all's either. But Megan the Stallion made it so this Saturday night. Why?"

He added that he was a fan of Thee Stallion, but said Thompson still “didn’t deserve” to be called out publicly. He also pointed to Thompson’s accolades, including multiple All-Star selections and four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors.

Stephen went on to suggest there is a double standard in how men and women handle relationship issues publicly.

“Is that how we gonna act, ladies and gentlemen? Are we gonna live like that? Are we gonna act like women are incapable of stepping out on dudes?” he said. “But these women just chirping all over the damn place, telling everybody, like you on The View, or you looking for an interview with Oprah…”

Thee Stallion first hinted at her and Thompson’s relationship in July 2025, when the Dallas Mavericks star was featured in the background of one of her Instagram posts.

She gushed about their relationship during an interview with Page Six later that month at the 2025 Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala, saying she had “never dated somebody so kind.”
