Taraji P. Henson questioned the decision of stars who attended this year’s Met Gala, which was backed by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
Henson shared her thoughts on the Met Gala on Sunday (May 3) on Instagram, commenting under a video by internet personality Meredith Lynch that advised celebrities not to wear “ICE out” pins to the Gala because “Jeff Bezos is part of the reason we’re in this f*****g mess.”
Henson appeared to agree, commenting: “I am so confused by some ppl that are going. I am just like WTF ARE WE DOING!?!?!?!”
She also reshared a post to her Instagram Story on Saturday (May 2), slamming Bezos for owning a $500 million superyacht despite Amazon warehouse workers facing “precarious conditions, low wages and high injury rates.” She captioned the post, “Enjoy the MET.”
This year’s Met Gala theme was “Costume Art,” with the dress code being “Fashion Is Art.” Although Lynch called the Met Gala a “wonderful institution” that supports the arts and donates to good causes, she pointed out the hypocrisy of Bezos's support for the event, given President Trump’s history with the arts.
“It is wild to me that this event is sponsored by Jeff Bezos, who has backed Trump, who has slashed arts funding,” Lynch said in her video.
The Trump administration announced sweeping cuts to grants for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) last year, according to NPR.
Trump has also proposed severe cuts to the National Education Association (NEA), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Institute of Museum and Library Services in his recent FY27 budget proposal to Congress.
