A man interviewed about Tasia Fortune’s death has been arrested on an unrelated firearm charge as the investigation continues.
Terence Anderson was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to WLBT. A judge set his bond at $250,000.
During an interview with detectives, Anderson denied involvement in Fortune’s death but acknowledged having an argument with her. Investigators also said Anderson and Fortune were in a relationship, a claim he denied.
Anderson lives on the 500 block of Road of Remembrance, near where Fortune’s body was discovered. He has not been charged in connection with her death, and Jackson police have not confirmed that he is a person of interest in the investigation.
Fortune’s mother, Christy Spivey, told ABC News that she does not believe her daughter died by suicide. Spivey said she last saw Fortune on July 26, when Fortune traveled to Kentucky for a family reunion. She described her daughter as being “at peace” when they last saw each other.
“She did not do this to herself. I know my daughter and she did not do this to herself,” Spivey said.
Jackson police confirmed to ABC News that Fortune’s death remains an active investigation but declined to provide additional details about the case.
The Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine Fortune’s cause and manner of death, according to ABC News. The medical examiner’s findings have not yet been released.
Fortune was found dead behind a vacant home in Jackson on Monday (August 3). BIN previously reported that community leaders have called for additional answers in the case, including Jackson Councilman Kenneth Stokes, who asked the U.S. Attorney’s Office to assist with the investigation.
