Attorney Nick Pittman wants to make sure Black lawyers across the country have the training, resources and connections they need to serve their communities.
During a conversation with the Black Information Network at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference, Pittman discussed the mission behind the Excellence Lawyers Retreat and the importance of strengthening networks among Black legal professionals.
Pittman said the retreat was founded by a group of Black attorneys amid growing concerns over civil rights and constitutional issues across the country.
The initiative focuses on three areas: training attorneys in constitutional and civil rights litigation, connecting younger lawyers with experienced trial attorneys and building a national network that allows attorneys to share resources and refer clients to one another.
Pittman emphasized the importance of knowledge transfer, with veteran attorneys sharing strategies and lessons learned over decades of litigation with the next generation of Black lawyers.
The retreat also aims to create lasting connections among attorneys in different cities and practice areas, allowing them to call on one another when clients and communities need legal support.
Public materials for the Excellence Lawyers Retreat similarly describe the gathering as an opportunity for attorneys to strengthen their trial strategies, learn from experienced lawyers and build meaningful professional connections.
