A North Carolina chef said her new restaurant was targeted by racists who vandalized the establishment and cut off its power.
According to the Citizen Times, chef Ashleigh Shanti, the owner of Good Hot Fish, said a group of racists vandalized her restaurant's entrance with a sticker and pulled a lever that shut off its power on February 3.
"Last Saturday, around closing time, a group of racists were doing what they do best and decided to shut the power off to our dining room while our last guests were enjoying their dinner,” the restaurant captioned a now-deleted Instagram post. “They then ran away, like cowards, when confronted by a guest and an employee but not before outfitting our entrance with this disgusting sticker.”
According to the Citizen Times, the sticker included racial slurs and read "How to ruin a white city."
The incident occurred just weeks after Shanti opened her restaurant in Asheville on January 20. Shanti previously appeared on the Bravo competition reality show Top Chef and has been nominated for a James Beard Award.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
