Michelle Obama Set To Release Children’s Version Of Her Memoir ‘Becoming’

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is releasing a young readers’ edition of her highly-celebrated memoir Becoming. The release will also include a paperback version of the book.

According to the book’s website, the new release for younger readers will reportedly have new material from the former First Lady, including “a special introduction for kids” written by Michelle Obama herself.

The new edition of the book has been adapted for readers aged 10 years and younger. A statement from publisher Penguin/Random House says fans of the memoir can purchase the new release on March 2.

In the paperback edition, there’s lots of surprises like three full-color photo inserts, a new introduction, “a letter from the author to her younger self, and a book club guide with 20 discussion questions and a 5-question Q&A.”

Obama posted about the release to Instagram, stating that the book has sold more than 15 million copies globally. She called the November 2018 release of the book “one of the most freeing experiences of my life.”

“My hope is that the young readers edition of Becoming can serve as a conversation starter for you,” she wrote in the caption. “Maybe it’ll open up new dialogues with your children or grandchildren. Maybe you can use it as an opportunity to begin a book club with the young people you know or use it as an excuse to invite them into your existing book club.”

She added the hashtag #IAmBecoming to encourage readers to share their book reading experiences.

“I want to hear it all! Whether it’s revelatory, a little messy, or even downright uncomfortable, I’m always interested in what kind of new awareness a good conversation can bring,” she added.
