Vice President Kamala Harris, Doug Emhoff To Move Into Naval Observatory

Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff have found a new home in the nation's capital. As repairs are made to their permanent residence, the couple will move into the United States Naval Observatory next week.

"The move was initially delayed to allow for repairs to the home that are more easily conducted with the home unoccupied," Harris said.

"The repairs included maintenance on the HVAC system, replacing the liners in the chimneys and refurbishing of some of the hardwood floors."

In the months leading up to the election, Harris and Emhoff stayed in a residence in northwest Washington, D.C. More recently, the couple moved into the Blair House as their home was being altered. Typically, the Blair House is used for visiting foreign officials. However, the pandemic has left the house vacant more often than not.

The Naval Observatory was renovated shortly after Vice President Mike Pence moved out on Inauguration Day. Over the last few months, the are has dealt with a security concern. Last month, a 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly carrying a weapon and unregistered ammunition near the Naval Observatory. Metropolitan Police Department has charged Paul Murray of Texas with carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, having unregistered ammunition and having a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

The couple is currently visiting Harris's home state of California. When they return, they'll officially call the Naval Observatory their new home....for now, at least.
