Maino said it first, but LeBron James may have said it best. Hi Haters! LeBron James tweeted in celebration as his latest film, Space Jam: A New Legacy, topped the box office during its first weekend in theaters. Pulling in $31.65 million, the Warner Bros. release outperformed other new releases like Black Widow that pulled in $26.3 million and Escape Room: Tournament of Champions earned $8.8 million.

"It shows that families have waited for a movie that everyone can go to and that's this movie," Jeff Goldstein of Warner Bros. said.

"It's just a fun movie for the family."

Not only did Space Jam: A New Legacy top the box office, but it also exceeded expectations. Due to poor reviews from critics and in-home releases on HBO Max, many expected the film to bring in $20 million. Moreover, CinemaScore reported that audiences gave the film an A- grade.

Many thanks to the fans! We made this for you and reward us with your presence. Thanks for coming back to the movies," director Malcolm D. Lee tweeted.

James is just getting started in the world of film and television. He recently produced a three-part documentary highlighting the life and career of Naomi Osaka. Moving forward, he is set to produce White Dave, Hustle and On Her Own Ground. Most notably, he and his partner, Maverick Carter, are working on two high-profile reboots, Friday The 13th and House Party.
