For the last two decades, the world of sports has been enamored with the success, style and talent that Serena and Venus Williams have displayed on and off the tennis court. As a result, the world has come to know about their backgrounds, interests, hobbies and much more. Still, many people are unaware of the man who encouraged them to strive for greatness, Richard Williams. However, that will all change when Warner Bros. rolls out their latest film, King Richard.
King Richard follows the story of tennis coach, Richard Williams, as he guides his daughters, Serena and Venus, to success. Will Smith will play the role of Williams while Demi Singleton and Saniyya Sidney play the roles of Venus and Serena. Rounding out the cast, Vaughn Hebron, Aunjanue Ellis and Layla Crawford will also star in supporting roles.
"Based on the true story that will inspire the world, Warner Bros. Pictures’ King Richard follows the journey of Richard Williams, an undeterred father instrumental in raising two of the most extraordinarily gifted athletes of all time, who will end up changing the sport of tennis forever. Two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith stars as Richard, under the direction of Reinaldo Marcus Green," the film's description reads.
"Driven by a clear vision of their future and using unconventional methods, Richard has a plan that will take Venus and Serena Williams from the streets of Compton, California to the global stage as legendary icons. The profoundly moving film shows the power of family, perseverance and unwavering belief as a means to achieve the impossible and impact the world."
King Richard is slated to debut on HBO Max and in theaters on November 19.
