Former President Barack Obama celebrated his 60th birthday Saturday (August 7) on Martha’s Vineyard, surrounded by families, friends, and a vegan menu.

The former commander-in-chief scaled back his party due to the rise of the COVID-19 Delta variant and still had “a great time.”

“He never stopped smiling,” a source told People. “Literally, every time I saw him, he had the biggest smile.” An original 475 guests were reportedly invited to the party before the invite list got cut down to only friends and family.

Among the finalized star-studded guest list were Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union, Gayle King, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Don Cheadle, and Alicia Keys. Beyoncé and Jay-Z also reportedly also attended the celebration, though Oprah decided not to attend the party because of the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Erykah Badu, H.E.R., and John Legend all attended and performed during the celebration as well, according to reports.

In a statement to the Black Information Network, PETA also revealed Obama celebrated his birthday without meat, the animal rights organization sending two special cakes for the birthday guy.

"Former President Barack Obama is having a meat-free Hawaii-inspired menu for his 60th birthday party,” PETA said. One cake was shaped like a Hawaiian pineapple and even threw in a carrot cake for Obama's “beloved, aging dog, Sunny.”

“This marks the first and we know not the last meat-free presidential birthday bash,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk shared. “Our cakes extend the aloha spirit to him and to all the animals in the land.”
