Former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner (D) slammed the New Hampshire Libertarian Party after they tweeted about her "picking crops."

On Tuesday (July 18), Turner took to Twitter to voice her opinion on the cost of insulin and medicine, per HuffPost.

"Insulin should be free. Medicine should be free," the former lawmaker wrote.

The New Hampshire Libertarian Party Twitter account responded to Turner's tweet, saying “Nina Turner picking crops should be free." The party added that Turner's opinion about free insulin “is equally offensive as calling for someone to be compelled to pick crops.”

“They are the same moral statement, and we should react to them with identical moral abhorrence,” The New Hampshire Party tweeted.

Turner blasted the party as "racist and anti-Black" in a follow-up tweet.

“This is racist and anti-Black. Period. In no way is advocating for free insulin comparable to chattel slavery. Shameful & uneducated,” she wrote.

The Libertarian Party's national Twitter account chimed in on the discussion.

“None of the things you advocate for are ‘free’. They require labor and materials which need to be compensated for. Otherwise, you are advocating for slavery. Hope this helps,” the national party tweeted at Turner.

“Taxpayers subsidizing life-saving medicine is not equal to chattel slavery," Turner responded. "If you don’t agree with that policy stance, that’s one thing, but equating it to chattel slavery is extremely insulting. Hope that helps.”

This isn't the first time the New Hampshire Libertarian Party's Twitter account has come under fire. In various tweets, the party has called for the legalization of child labor, mocked the Holocaust, and said "Happy Holidays" on the anniversary of Sen. John McCain’s death.
