Megan Thee Stallion says her relationship with Klay Thompson left her feeling “on edge” and like she was “losing” herself before their breakup earlier this year.
Megan and Thompson were first romantically linked in summer 2025 and made their red carpet debut that July. Their relationship ended less than a year later after Megan accused Thompson of cheating in an Instagram Stories post in April 2026, saying that trust, fidelity and respect had been compromised.
In an interview with InStyle published Wednesday (September 9), the Grammy-winning rapper described the split as “very rough.”
“I feel like I’ve been put through the washing machine and the dryer with tins, shovels, and a cactus,” Megan said of how she’s been feeling.
She said she spent too much of the relationship trying to force something that wasn’t working.
“I think I just kept trying to make pieces fit that didn’t belong, trying to fit myself into someone else’s life,” she said. “I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again.”
The experience has also changed what she expects from a future partner. Megan said she refuses to compromise her identity or accept disrespect.
“I cannot be disrespected. I cannot be a person who is not gonna be me,” she said. “I’m going to be Megan Thee Stallion.”
She added that she wants a relationship where both people are on equal footing.
“I cannot be minimized. I will not be behind any man. I will have a partner. I will be equals with my partner,” Megan said.
For now, Megan said she is embracing being on her own.
“Being by yourself is okay,” she said. “Like, I ain’t smiled so much in so long.”
